It amazes me how whenever someone criticizes something or someone, they are automatically branded as a “Hater”. I just don’t understand this mentality. Why is it if I don’t like something or someone, I am “hating” on their success? Why can’t I just not like something? Why must I conform to what everybody else likes?
It is okay to not like what everybody else likes. It is okay to walk to the beat of your own drum. I don’t like Beyoncé’s music. I don’t like Rihanna’s music. I don’t like Tyler Perry’s movies. I don’t like the Kardashian reality shows. My dislike of their product doesn’t make me a “HATER”. I do not HATE any of them. I wish them nothing but success. I hope they all make a billion dollars and inspire the youth of the world. But, saying that, they will NEVER get one penny of my money. I will never give them a second of my time. The flip side of that, they don’t WANT my money. They could not CARE LESS about my opinion of them. That’s because I am not their target. They aren’t making a PRODUCT for me. And that is fine. I commend them on knowing their audience and capitalizing on it. That is just smart business.
People always say “Haters pay my bills”. I want you to think about that line of thought for a second, and think if you ACTUALLY believe that. If someone TRULY hates your success, why would they fund it? They aren’t. They don’t make you any money. They just don’t. Your SUPPORTERS pay your bills. Your SUPPORTERS make you famous. Those are the people that push you to new heights. Yeah, a “hater” my MOTIVATE you. But why dwell in negativity? Save your energy for positivity.
Yes, I get it. Their are people who are jealous of others and try to drag other people down. As they say, misery loves company. But that isn’t everybody. Everybody who disagrees with you isn’t a hater, they just don’t like what you like. They just differ in opinion from you. All product, all content isn’t meant for all eyes, all ears.
You want to know what I DO hate? I hate rapists. I hate drug dealers. I hate murderers. I hate oppression. I hate racism. I am a “HATER” on hate and cruelty and exclusion. Those are the things I hate. I am a “HATER” on those things.
As a society, we will ALL benefit from a difference of opinion. It is how we all grow. If we can just learn to accept and appreciate people for who they are, and how they think, life will be much better. Learn to accept that not everybody is going to agree with you. Realize that people are different. Just because they don’t like what you like, doesn’t make them a “HATER”. Just think before you misuse this most misused word.
