Black Characters in Comics: Storm

As part of Black History Month, I am doing a series celebrating the great black characters that are in comics. Today, I am going to give a brief history about the first major black Female character, Storm.

Storm was created in 1975 for Marvel comics by Len Wein and Dave Cockrum. She was created as part of the next wave of X-Men. The X-Men are a team of mutants fighting for justice and equality in the world. Storm’s real name is Ororo Munroe. She is of Kenyan and African American decent. Her mother was a witch-priestess with white hair, blue eyes, and a natural ability in sorcery, giving Storm her unique appearance. Storm’s mutant ability is the ability to control the weather. Storm has led the X-Men, and the Morlocks. She has also been a member of the Avengers.

Storm is probably the most well known black character in comics. She has been in four of the X-Men movies(portrayed by Oscar winner Halle Barry), all of the X-Men cartoons, and has had a prominent part in most of the X-Men comics since her introduction.
