UPDATE: Philip Seymour Hoffman Dead At 46

News spread quickly across twitter that Philip Seymour Hoffman was found dead in his apartment from an apparent drug overdose. Reports say that he was found with a needle in his arm and it’s alleged that it contained heroin.

The NY Post reports

Oscar-winning actor Philip Seymour Hoffman was found dead of an apparent drug overdose — in the bathroom with a hypodermic needle still in his arm — inside a Greenwich Village home on Sunday morning, cops said.
A personal assistant found Hoffman’s body in an apartment at 35 Bethune St. and called 911 around 11:30 a.m, sources said.

Hoffman, 46, publicly admitted in 2006 that he nearly succumbed to substance abuse after graduating from NYU’s drama school, but got sober in rehab.
“It was all that (drugs and alcohol), yeah. It was anything I could get my hands on…I liked it all,” he told “60 Minutes” as the time.

Back in May of 2013, TMZ reported that

Philip Seymour Hoffman just got out of detox for a drug problem that was spinning out of control … a problem he desperately wanted to nip in the bud … and he’s already back doing a movie.

Hoffman — who struggled with substance abuse in the past but kicked the habit for 23 years — fell off the wagon more than a year ago. He tells TMZ it started slowly with prescription pills, and recently escalated to snorting heroin.

he heroin use only lasted a week or so and he quickly realized he needed help, so he checked himself into a detox facility on the East Coast.

He says he was at the facility for 10 days and checked out last Friday. Hoffman credits what he calls “a great group of friends and family” for helping him seek the treatment he needed to get better.

Hoffman starred in last years The Hunger Games: Catching Fire as Plutarch Heavensbee, master designer of the Quarter Quell.

Hoffman was supposed to reprise his role as Heavensbee in The Hunger Games: Mockingjay, no word on whether his role in the movie had been filmed completely.

Condolences goes out to the Hoffman family. He had a relationship with Mimi O’Donnell, a costume designer, which produced 3 children, Tallulah Hoffman, Cooper Alexander Hoffman and Willa Hoffman. Here are some pictures of Philip Seymour Hoffman with his family throughout the years.

RIP Philip Seymour Hoffman.
