Blacks in Comics: Cyborg

In today’s installment of Blacks in Comics, I am going to talk about Cyborg. Cyborg was created in 1980 by Marv Wolfman and George Pérez for DC Comics. Cyborg made his first appearance in DC Comics Presents #26(Oct. 1980). Cyborg has appeared in many comics and other media.

Cyborg’s real name is Victor Stone. His parents were scientists who experimented on Victor to increase his intelligence to genius levels. Victor resented being a test subject for his parents, and went out of his way to do things that they didn’t approve of. Victor slacked off in school, played sports, and was involved with a gang. One day, while visiting his parents at work, an experiment his parents were working on went wring, leading this mother’s death, and his near death. The only way Victor’s father could save him was by attaching experimental prosthetics to Victor. When Victor regained consciousness, and saw what his father had done to him, he was horrified. Eventually, thru physical therapy, Victor learned to control his new body. Victor was accepted by his friends, though, as his cybernetic parts scared people. Victor’s friend tried to manipulate Victor into attacking the United Nations, but Victor foiled his friend’s plan.

Shortly after this, Victor took on the name of Cyborg and joined the Teen Titans, partly to fight crime, and partly as a support group. He helped the Titans overcome many adversaries, including Deathstroke, Dr. Light, and Brother Blood. He becomes a mentor to the younger Titan members, and one of the groups leaders. In the New 52 continuity, Cyborg is one of the founding members of the Justice League.

Cyborg has appeared on my different cartoons, including Teen Titans and Teen Titans Go!. Cyborg also was a reoccurring character on the show Smallville.

Cyborg is a really cool character. I am glad they have increased his importance level in the New 52. If you wanna learn more about Cyborg, click here.
