Well, the battle for our summer dollars begins in earnest on May 6, 2016. On that day, the Batman vs Superman comes out, as will Captain America 3. Yup, that’s right, they will be going head to head. It’s going to be the battle to see who wins the weekend, and probably that summer.
When DC and Warner Bros. decided to push the Batman vs Superman movie back from 2015 to 2016, this is the day they chose. Well, the flip side of that is Marvel had previously announced that they would be releasing another movie that day, just had not revealed the title. Well, Marvel obviously isn’t backing down, because they are putting their big gun up against DC’s two big guns.
This is going to a really telling outcome. Marvel’s movies have been universally applauded, while other than the recent Batman trilogy, and the Batman movies from the early 90s, DC and Warner Bros. haven’t found much success in the cinematic realm. While I loved Man of Steel, many people had issues with it. So, can DC and Warner Bros. get this one right? The casting for the movie has been ridiculed at every point, so they seem to already be off to a rocky start in the public eye.
Marvel will be fully into phase 3 of their cinematically game plan, so will they still be picking up steam? Will Avengers:Age of Ultron have us frothing at the mouth for the next installment of the Captain America franchise? Those are just some of the questions Marvel is facing with the upcoming expansion of their cinematic universe. This head to head battle with the Dark Knight and Man of Steel is definitely a power play. I know I can’t wait to see how it all plays out.
