I am currently training to run a half marathon in March. I run 3-4 days a week, and really wanted to find a structured way to get ready. I tried a few different running apps, but they either had really expensive in app purchases of training programs, or no training programs at all.
I stumbled across the Gipis app, and figured I would give it a whirl. I was not disappointed. I was able to log in using my twitter credentials, and the app asked what my goal was, and my current fitness level. Based off that information, it tailored a program for me. I have been using the app for a about 4 months now, and I love it. It helps me keep a pretty steady pace during my runs, which has always been an issue for me. The app does a great job of tracking my progress. It also will adjust the program if it is too easy for me, or too hard, depending on my feed back.
Another great feature of this app is that you can link it to Runkeeper if you use that app. It’s just another way to track your progress. This is especially helpful if you have been using Runkeeper for a long time.
You can use the tied in social features to post your workouts on Twitter or Facebook. You can even take pics in the app pre- or post-run, and post directly from the app, which is convenient.
Overall, I must say I love using this app. The app is easy to use, does a great job in tracking your progress, and even adjust the program for you. The one downside is that the app doesn’t work great tracking your run if you run on a treadmill. But that’s where the integration with Runkeeper comes on handy. I definitely recommend this app if your training for a race, or just trying to get off the couch to run and get into better shape.
