Today, Funko and DC Comics announced that they are teaming up for a subscription box service. The new service will be called Legion of Collectors.
The new service costs $25 every other month and members will receive exclusive DC-themed Funko items which are valued at over $50, which may include a t-shirt. Every box will focus on different parts and characters of the DC Universe. The first month’s theme will be Batman v Superman, this March. The contents, like other subscription box services, are a mystery.
There will be boxes shipped every two months and will feature two member levels, the monthly “Sidekick” plan and the annual “Hero” plan, which will feature a mystery award upon completing one year in the program. You can check out the plans on the Legion of Collectors website.
This is just the latest box in the subscription box craze. There are boxes for everything, from comics, to makeup, to hair products, to fitness products. DC is getting into the game about a year after Marvel. Having Armored Batman in the first box is kind of like having Hulkbuster Iron-Man in the first Marvel Collector Corps box. I will probably be subscribing. Will you?
